COVID-19 and Ethically Responsible Healing Treatments

We always consider it our responsibility to keep you and our practice safe . We therefore believe that it is important for us to establish and maintain procedures that protect all of us from physcial, emotional, and mental injury and harm.

The emergence and current presence of COVID-19 has prompted us to publish this additional information on how our healing practice will maintain work standards that minimize transmission of the virus, and to improve its detection, should we suspect to come in contact with it.

This page sets our our COVID-19 Operating Guidelines, and is presented as our COVID-19 Operating Statement. We aim to keep this Statement aligned with current advice from New Zealand’s Ministry of Health and, should we believe it to be required, from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

This Statement will be updated as more releveant information becomes available.

Advaya Healing’s understanding of COVID-19

In relation to COVID-19 we understand from New Zealand’s Ministry of Health that:

  • Coronaviruses are a large and diverse family of viruses which include some known to cause illness in animals and humans, including the common cold, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)”.
  • A novel coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2 caused a cluster of viral respiratory illness (COVID-19) in Wuhan that had not previously been detected in humans or animals. Phylogenetic analysis shows it to be related to SARS CoV, the virus responsible for the SARS pandemic which began in China in 2003. On 12 March, the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic.
  • The clinical signs and symptoms of COVID-19 infection that have been reported range from non-specific respiratory symptoms such as cough, fever, sore throat and anosmia, to shortness of breath and symptoms of pneumonia and severe acute respiratory infection.
  • Most cases in New Zealand have had a mild illness, with approximately six percent having more severe illness requiring hospitalisation. The virus has an approximately one percent fatality rate with most of those who have died from the virus to date suffering from pre-existing health problems.
  • The most common reported symptoms to date in New Zealand cases are cough, followed by headache, sore throat, and fever.
  • The incubation period is considered to be from 1-14 days (commonly 3 to 7 days).
  • Transmission of the COVID-19 virus is considered to happen mostly through respiratory droplets and secretions. It can be transmitted either by direct exposure or by transfer on hands. Current evidence does not support airborne transmission.

Advaya Healing’s COVID-19 Response Plan

The ways by which we will operate as a practice will be adjusted, depending on our National Alert Level and the advice our Ministry of Health provides. Unless advised otherwise we continue to operate our practice as normal up to Alert Level 3.

Generally, we are committed to reduce risks of transmission of acute respiratory infections. However, due to the nature of our work and the way we must work, there are limitations to what we can achieve.

COVID-19 Alert Level 1 and 2 Precautions

With exception to consultation over information and communication technologies, our healing treatments require us to connect with your physically. It is therefore not possible for us to maintain physical distancing for practice-based treatments.

We aim to avoid close contact with people who are or might be suffering from any symptoms of acute respiratory infection. We therefore make it a requirement for all clients to complete an online COVID-19 Declaration Form in advance of their practice-based treatments. This form is send automatically when a booking is made through our online booking system.

  • You should NOT visit our practice if you know or suspect to suffer from acute respiratory symptoms. Please cancel your appointment in advance, preferably no later than 24 hours in advance of your treatment time. Our Cancellation Policy continues to apply, which you can find here.
  • All bookings must be made through our Online Booking System. This system acts as our tracing mechanism, which we are obliged to maintain throughout all periods of operation. We will refer you to this booking system if you contact us to make an appointment over the phone.
  • We aim to avoid close contact with people who are or might be suffering from any symptoms of acute respiratory infection. We therefore make it a requirement for all clients to complete an online COVID-19 Declaration Form in advance of their practice-based treatments. This form is send automatically when a booking is made through our online booking system.

  • Before and after meeting with each client we observe procedures for appropriate hand hygiene with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol. We consider the sanitizer that is used at our practice safe for most people. If you wish to avoid the use of our sanitizer we will ask you to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with the soap we provide, and to dry them properly.

  • We ask you not to touch your face, and specifically not your eyes, nose and mouth. We encourage respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette (cover coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues and place into bin after use, clean/wash and dry hands). If you must cough, do so in a tissue we provide. We encourage you to use hand sanitizer after each cough.

Practice Changes under Alert Level 3

Should New Zealand return to a COVID-19 Alert Level 3 status the following changes will apply automatically to our operations.

Cancellation of existing bookings

Should a national return to Alert Level 3 occur, we will be required to suspend your booked appointments accordingly. Our practice will resume its operations only when our Government announces a national return to Alert Level 2 or below.

If existing bookings must be cancelled, we will contact you by email to make alternative arrangements. Under Alert Level 3 our normal Cancellation Policy will NOT apply to appointments that must either be cancelled or postponed.

If a prepaid booking must be suspended or postponed under Alert Level 3 the full payment will be returned to the payee.

Gift Vouchers

The validity of all Advaya Healing Gift Vouchers expires after six months of issue. Holders of a valid Advaya Healing Gift Voucher will be granted an extension of this period to the same length by which our practice suspends its practices under Alert Level 3 and 4. For example, should New Zealand Government impose another Alert Level 3 for two months, the expiry date on your Advaya Healing Gift Voucher will extend by two months accordingly.

Courses and Events

Consistent with our Government’s Alert Level 3 Guidelines we will cancel all Advaya Healing events, including seminars, training courses, presentations, and public speaking event.

Prepaid attendance fees may be refundable, depending on the prepayment Terms and Conditions of each individual event. We will only be responsible for the repayment of fees we received in our account(s) prior the cancelled event. Refunds of payments made to our event partners and organizers in advance of the cancelled event(s) must be requested from these third-parties.
