Is bodywork and manual therapy safe?

Is bodywork right for you? It is always safest to work with a well-trained and experienced therapist who understands the contraindications.

While energetic bodywork has proven to significantly accelerate most healing processes there are conditions for which our treatments are contraindicated. A treatment or therapeutic procedure is considered contraindicated if it is likely to harm or injure you, in which case it should not be performed with or on you.

When we may not treat you

A number of conditions prevent us from treating you as doing so is known to sometimes cause unwanted or dangerous reactions.

We are especially careful if you suffer from allergies, high blood pressure, hormonal imbalances, or pregnancy, for example. If you or we believe that your mental and emotional wellness is extraordinarily compromised we may avoid certain treatments until you are physically, emotionally, psychologically ready to receive them.

In some cases we may consider it unethical and irresponsible to either commence or proceed with your therapy without consulting your doctor or medical specialist.

Please read this page before booking your treatment to see what we will do, or ask you to do, if any of the following conditions applies to you. This list may not be complete. Especially if you suffer from a chronic condition that affects your quality of living noticeably, please discuss these with your therapist before treatments.

Two types of contraindications

Relative contraindication means that caution should be used when two types of non-complimentary treatments are used together, or when a particular treatment may negatively interfere with medication prescribed to you.

We will require advice from your medical specialist if you are diagnosed with osteoporosis (brittle bones) or suspect to be affected by it. We may also insist you arrange for such advice if we sense this to be the case.

Depending on the severity of your condition, we may decide to adjust your treatment programme to make it suitable and safe for you.
