Safe and respectful healing bodywork practices

Often, when we discuss our bodywork practices we are asked questions about the need for being undressed throughout treatments. Many of these questions are raised as concerns, and most point specifically at the discomforts some people have about being treated by a someone of the opposite gender.

If you share similar concerns, please be aware that we take these seriously and will always aim to accommodate your treatment preferences to the best of our abilities.

Dressing for Bodywork Treatments

Your first appointment with us will be for a Treatment Intake Assessment. Although most of our now regular clients enjoyed their assessment we understand that these can be daunting at first. We respond differently to being observed by a therapist, especially when we are asked to dress down to our underwear. This can be particularly unnerving in cross-gender client-therapist settings.

Ask your therapist

This page should give you sufficient information about the dress requirements for each of our treatments.

We invite you to contact us if you wish to receive a treatment from us but feel uncomfortable with the dress requirements that are specified on this page. Although we seldom change these dress requirements, we might be able to make some adjustments to ensure your comfort.

  • Depending on the type of treatment you prefer to receive you will almost always be allowed to wear underwear. To help you feel at ease and relaxed we recommend you select something basic and comfortable. Simple will always be best.

  • Select clothing made of natural fibers such as wool, cotton, linen, and hemp. Avoid wearing silk as balms and oils may stain this fabric.
  • Especially for back and shoulder treatments, avoid wearing front-fastening and sport bras if you prefer to keep your breasts covered during your session.

  • Because we perform most of our treatments skin on skin, some techniques may require us to work under your bra straps and the edges of your underwear. We will always ask your permission first.

  • Irrespective your preference, your therapist will ensure you remain properly and comfortably draped with sheets, blankets, and towels throughout your session.

  • All our treatments are performed professionally and with great care for your comfort and privacy.

Dressing for your bodywork treatment

Myofascial release

You remain partially clothed if we treat a specific section of your body. Even if we do not treat your upper body you may prefer to discard your bra or top if this makes the treatment more comfortable for you.

If bottom underwear might affect the effectiveness of the lower back, upper leg, and hip treatments we will ask you to wear small-sized bottoms in advance of your session.

Medicinal cupping

Tok Sen

You remain fully clothed but preferably to a single layer of fabric. You may choose to discard your upper underwear if this makes the treatment more comfortable for you.

To connect more intensely with the wooden tok sen tools, some clients prefer to experience their treatments partially undressed. In such instances bottom underwear is not removed.

Oil massage

You either undress fully or partially. Parts of your body you prefer to stay dressed will be excluded from the treatment.

We recommend you wear clothes that can be affected by the oils and balms we will be using. These oils and balms are not known to stain most fabrics permanently but we prefer not to guarantee this.

Nuad Bo’Rarn

You remain fully clothed for a Nuad Bo’Rarn treatment (traditional Thai massage). As part of the treatment we offer you loose-fitting and comfortable pants and shirt.

For females, if upper body underwear proves to be uncomfortable, we suggest you wear a simple halter top under the treatment shirt instead. If you can, select natural fibers such as cotton, hemp or rayon.

Chi Nei Tsang

As all Chi Nei Tsang (Chinese abdominal massage) treatments are performed directly on the abdominal region you remain partially clothed. Only upper body clothing is removed, with exception to underwear for females. Normally, upper body underwear does not to be removed.

In some cases, the treatment region can extend to the lower part of your rib cage and your body’s sides, closer toward your shoulders.
