Mondi Den Otter
Founder & Principal Therapist
Mondi Den Otter is the founder of Advaya Healing Bodywork, a boutique and specialised bodywork clinic that’s based on New Zealand’s beautiful Kapiti Coast.
Born in the Netherlands, Mondi’s journey has spanned continents, careers, and disciplines – each chapter deepening his understanding of human nature, psychology, spirituality, and eventually the arts and sciences of healing.
Already in his early years, Mondi gained rare and unique insights into human behaviour while working for some of the creative forces in Europe’s advertising world. Under several creative and design mentorships, he gradually turned his attention to learning about the fields of social, cognitive, and behavioural psychology that sought to understand how advertising and commercial messaging affected not just our decision making – but also our mental health and wellbeing.
Eight years later, after relocating to Australia, he was recruited as Concept Specialist by one of the world’s top management consulting firms. There, tasked with the design and development of organisational change and business transformation models, he worked with several senior leaders of global brands before joining a top-tier consulting practice that specialised in organisational and managerial behaviour.
This role ignited his passion for human dynamics – how we, human beings, operate, connect, and thrive within complex systems.
After years of international consulting across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania, Mondi chose to step away from corporate life in 2014 to pursue his interests in therapeutic bodywork and somatic healing. By then, his work and travels through South-East Asia had awakened a deep reverence for traditional healing philosophies, which inspired him to study Medical QiGong, Universal Healing Tao, Chinese Medicine, and Thai Medicine & Bodywork in Asia.
Establishing Advaya Healing Bodywork
By 2017, after receiving multiple therapeutic qualifications, Mondi founded Advaya Healing Bodywork, intending to establish specialised a sanctuary for holistic healing and somatic transformation.
“He aspired to establish a bodywork clinic that stood apart from conventional practices by offering deeply integrative, trauma-informed therapies that truly honour clients as whole persons – physically, emotionally, and spiritually…”
Since its inception, Advaya’s approach became firmly rooted in three inter-related types of bodywork: myofascial release, visceral abdominal massage, and lymphatic drainage, all tailored to systematically address chronic pain, emotional trauma, and nervous system dysregulation. These treatments are not just physical – they are continuously redesigned and improved to help his clients process long-held memories and emotions stored in the body, often for years or decades. Almost unusually, they are solely designed to empower Advaya’s clients to reclaim autonomy and self-agency over their healing journey.
As more people seek holistic alternatives to pharmaceutical and symptom-focused care, Mondi’s clients are increasingly drawn to Advaya’s unique blend of ancient wisdom and modern science, which fosters lasting transformation rather than temporary relief. The clinic’s unique integrations of Taoist, Thai, and contemporary Western medical approaches are invariably based on evidence-based techniques.
His work remains constantly informed by therapeutic pioneers like Tom Myers, Michael J. Shea, Til Luchau, Ruth Duncan, and Dr. Emil Vodder. His therapeutic philosophies lean significantly on today’s thought leaders in trauma and neurobiology, such as Dr. Stephen Porges, Dr. Dan Siegel, and Dr. Peter Levine. Additionally, he is an avid student of Antonio Damasio’s works, remains inspired by the texts of Alan Watts, and considers Joseph Campbell a perpetual mentor on his own life’s (healing) journey.
What sets Advaya truly apart from many other practices today is its commitment to ethical, respectful, and personalized care. Mondi’s trauma-sensitive methods and intuitive presence create a safe space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported. Almost unusually, treatments are always exclusively designed to empower clients to reclaim autonomy and self-agency over their healing journey. With that, Advaya’s reputation continues to grow.
“Mondi’s clients describe their experiences increasingly as “all-of-you work” – a profound unfolding of body, mind, and spirit. It’s not just therapy; it’s transformation…”
With thousands of treatments performed, Mondi continues to explore how bodywork, somatic healing, and biopsychosocial models can support mental health – especially in alleviating anxiety and depression. He is member of several global therapist networks that play leading roles in the exploration of safe, effective treatments that specifically promote women’s health and emotional resilience.
“Mondi’s work is more than therapy – it’s a philosophy of care, presence, and empowerment…”
He believes that to be an excellent bodywork therapist, he must transcend technical skill by cultivating presence, empathy, intuition, and emotional intelligence. He sees his client’s body as a part of a larger system – interconnected with emotions, beliefs, and life experiences – and therefore approaches each session as a dialogue, not just as a procedure.
These qualities keep Advaya a therapeutic space where all his clients should feel safe, seen, and supported – which, he believes, are all essential ingredients for deep healing. As this often involves vulnerability, he listens without judgment and holds space with compassion allow all clients to relax and trust the process which they, themselves, can manage and control.
Unlike conventional clinics that focus solely on physical relief, Mondi’s work addresses the root causes of pain and imbalance – often stored in the body as unresolved trauma, emotional tension, or energetic stagnation. For those who have felt disconnected from their bodies, overwhelmed by stress, or stuck in emotional patterns, Mondi’s work offers a pathway back to wholeness.
This is rare in a world that often treats symptoms in isolation. Advaya Healing Bodywork offers not something different but something revolutionary: a return to embodied wisdom, emotional freedom, and deep inner peace.
Mondi considers himself fortunate to be married to Sonia who, herself, is a Reiki Master and a pioneering health care practitioner. He considers her a constant inspiration for his therapeutic work, particularly in relation to women’s health, natural medicine, spiritualism, and astrology.
