General Bodywork Therapy FAQs
Yes, it can, but there are a few things to consider.
Generally, our therapeutic bodywork can be safely and effectively combined with other therapies such as physiotherapy, psychotherapy, acupuncture, and medical care, offering you complementary approaches that enhance your overall healing and wellbeing.
Many of our clients integrate our bodywork with modalities such as physiotherapy, psychotherapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, or medical treatment. Because we focus on your body’s soft tissues, nervous system regulation, and emotional integration, we support – not competes with – other therapeutic approaches. For example, if you already work with a physiotherapist for injury rehabilitation you may also benefit from our myofascial release or scarwork treatments to reduce tension and improve tissue mobility, which could accelerate recovery.
Our bodywork therapies differ from health coaching in both approach and focus, offering hands-on, somatic support rather than goal-oriented guidance and behavioural strategies.
Health coaching typically centres on helping you set and achieve wellness goals through conversation, education, and accountability. Coaches may support you in areas like nutrition, exercise, stress management, or lifestyle changes. Sessions are often structured around identifying obstacles, creating action plans, and tracking progress over time. The relationship is collaborative and motivational, with the coach acting as a guide to help you make informed choices and sustain healthy habits.
Our bodywork therapies differ significantly from chiropractic care in philosophy, technique, and therapeutic goals, offering a more holistic and integrative approach to healing.
Chiropractic care primarily focuses on the alignment of the spine and musculoskeletal system, using high-velocity adjustments to correct structural imbalances. It is often used to treat back pain, neck pain, and joint issues, with a clinical emphasis on spinal health and nerve function. Chiropractors typically use quick, targeted manipulations to restore alignment and improve mobility.
Our bodywork therapies differ from physiotherapy in their holistic, integrative approach that blends Eastern and Western principles to support your physical, emotional, and energetic healing.
While physiotherapy typically focuses on restoring physical function through targeted exercises, manual techniques, and rehabilitation protocols, our therapies emphasize the interconnectedness of your body, mind, and nervous system. Physiotherapy is often structured around clinical diagnoses and measurable outcomes, such as improving your range of motion or strengthening muscles after injury. In contrast, our bodywork is more fluid and intuitive, addressing not only your physical discomfort but also emotional tension, trauma, and energetic imbalances.
Choosing the right therapeutic bodyworker is essential for a safe, effective, and empowering healing experience.
Start by identifying your goals – whether it’s pain relief, stress reduction, injury recovery, or emotional support. Different modalities serve different needs, so understanding your priorities helps narrow your search.
Advaya’s bodywork differs from traditional massage by focusing on holistic healing, emotional integration, and mind-body awareness – not just muscle relief.
While traditional massage primarily targets physical tension and relaxation through techniques like Swedish or deep tissue massage, we take broader, more integrative approaches. They encompass a variety of modalities – such as myofascial release, manual lymphatic drainage massage, visceral abdominal massage – to address not only muscular discomfort but also emotional and psychological imbalances. We furthermore incorporate Traditional Chinese and Thai Medicine principles into all we do.
Bodywork Benefit FAQs
Absolutely! Our bodywork therapies offer gentle, restorative support for you if you have undergone breast augmentation, whether for cosmetic or reconstructive purposes.
Surgical procedures – especially those involving implants, tissue expansion, or reconstruction – can leave behind physical tension, scar tissue, and emotional sensitivity. We specialize in modalities like scarwork, myofascial release, and manual lymphatic drainage, which are particularly beneficial for post-surgical recovery. These therapies help soften adhesions, improve circulation, and support your body’s natural healing processes without disrupting surgical outcomes.
Our therapeutic bodywork supports a wide range of health, wellness, and wellbeing conditions – especially those related to physical pain, emotional stress, trauma recovery, and nervous system regulation.
Since 2017, our clients worked with us to achieve relief from chronic pain, muscular tension, postural imbalances, and injuries that may not respond well to conventional treatments. Techniques like myofascial release, manual lymphatic drainage, and visceral abdominal massage help reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and restore mobility. These approaches are particularly beneficial for people recovering from surgery, managing repetitive strain injuries, or living with conditions like fibromyalgia or arthritis.
Yes, it can contribute. Therapeutic bodywork can be a powerful complement to traditional treatments for depression, helping you reconnect with your body, regulate your nervous systems, and experience emotional relief.
Depression often manifests not only as emotional numbness or sadness but also as physical symptoms – fatigue, muscle tension, chronic pain, and disrupted sleep. Therapeutic bodywork addresses these somatic expressions by using touch, movement, and breath to release tension and restore balance.
Yes, in can contribute.
Advaya’s bodywork offers a powerful, nonverbal pathway to ease anxiety by reconnecting you with your body in a safe, grounded way. Anxiety often manifests physically – tight muscles, shallow breathing, restlessness – and bodywork directly addresses these symptoms through gentle touch, movement, and somatic awareness. Modalities like myofascial release, manual lymphatic drainage massage, and visceral abdominal massage can help regulate your nervous system, shifting you out of fight-or-flight and into a state of rest and repair.
Bodywork Safety FAQs
No, we do not. At Advaya Healing Bodywork, our mission is to provide compassionate, holistic care that supports the body’s natural ability to heal. We specialize in therapeutic touch, somatic awareness, and restorative practices that promote relaxation, balance, and overall well-being.
However, it is important to clarify the scope of our work: we do not diagnose illnesses, prescribe treatments, or replace the expertise of licensed medical professionals.
Feeling vulnerable or anxious during bodywork treatments – especially as a new Advaya Bodywork client – is completely normal.
You’re placing trust in someone to touch your body, often in unfamiliar ways, and that can stir up a range of emotions. This vulnerability isn’t just physical; it can be emotional and psychological too. Your body holds memories, tension, and trauma, and therapeutic touch can sometimes bring those to the surface.
Feeling safe and comfortable during therapeutic bodywork is essential. If at any point during a session you feel unsafe, uneasy, or uncomfortable – whether physically, emotionally, or energetically – it’s important to honour that feeling and take action.
First and foremost, speak up. You always have the right to communicate your discomfort clearly and immediately. Whether techniques are too intense or feel invasive, or our practice feels no longer secure, let us know immediately. As professionals we will respond directly, with respect, and adjust our approaches. We will always prioritize your well-being without judgment.
No, you don’t. This is one of the most common questions new clients ask, and the answer is simple: no, it is not necessary to undress completely to benefit from bodywork. At Advaya Healing Bodywork, your comfort and sense of safety are always the highest priority.
Some of our techniques can even be performed while you remain clothed. Others, however, require only partial undressing to ensure they are effective. Techniques such as myofascial release and manual lymphatic drainage must be performed directly on the skin. Clothing creates a barrier that prevents us from accessing your fascia and lymphatic pathways properly, limiting the therapeutic benefits. By working on bare skin, we can apply the precise pressure and gentle movements needed to release restrictions, improve circulation, and support your body’s natural healing processes.
They should never be.
Our bodywork treatments are intended to promote healing, relaxation, and overall well-being – never to cause you physical or emotional discomfort or pain. While some techniques may involve firm pressure or deep tissue manipulation, they are always applied with sensitivity and respect for your physical, mental, and emotional limits.
Pain is a signal from the nervous system that something may be wrong, and ignoring or overriding it during bodywork can lead to tissue damage, increased inflammation, or emotional distress.
Yes, it is. Rest assured, Advaya’s bodywork is increasingly supported by clinical research, showing benefits for chronic pain, anxiety, mental health, and trauma recovery, with evidence of improved nervous system regulation, reduced cortisol levels, and enhanced emotional well-being.
Medical and scientific communities recognize our therapeutic bodywork as a legitimate complementary treatment. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses have shown that our bodywork modalities – such as our myofascial release, manual lymphatic drainage massage, and visceral abdominal massage – can significantly reduce symptoms of chronic pain, anxiety, and depression.

Fees, Pricing & Payment FAQs
No. We therefore keep our bodywork treatment prices deliberately affordable because our services are not covered by New Zealand’s Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) or most insurance providers.
In New Zealand, ACC provides financial support for a range of injury-related treatments, but therapeutic bodywork – especially holistic or somatic modalities – is often excluded from this coverage. Similarly, most private insurance plans do not reimburse clients for bodywork sessions unless they fall under specific categories like physiotherapy or chiropractic care. As a result, all clients seeking integrative healing approaches must pay out of pocket.
We offer clear, upfront, and transparent pricing for all treatments, with 60-minute and 90-minute options, and each easily viewable through our online booking system.
Transparency is a cornerstone of our client-centred approach. When booking a session, you can access a straightforward online system that clearly displays the cost of each treatment before confirming an appointment. This ensures there are no surprises or hidden fees, allowing you to make informed decisions based on your budget and wellness goals.
Treatment Planning FAQs
That depends. The number of therapeutic bodywork treatments you may need varies widely and depends on several personal factors. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, because your body, history, and goals will always be unique. At Advaya Bodywork, the frequency and duration of your sessions will be tailored to your specific concerns, physical condition, emotional state, and overall health objectives.
For example, if you’re seeking relief from acute pain or recovering from an injury, you may benefit from more frequent sessions initially – perhaps once or twice a week – until symptoms begin to ease. Chronic conditions, such as long-term tension, stress, or trauma, often require a more gradual approach, with regular sessions over a longer period to support lasting change.
There will be noticeable signs if you are working with a professional therapist.
You’ll know that bodywork therapy is working through reduced pain, improved mobility, deeper relaxation, better sleep, emotional release, enhanced body awareness, and a lasting sense of physical ease and mental clarity throughout your daily life.
