Internal Pelvic Health [IPH]
Advaya Healing’s Internal Pelvic Health treatments offer gentle, effective, and evidence‑informed support for pelvic floor wellbeing. Always delivered with absolute professionalism, consent‑led care, and an unwavering commitment to your comfort, boundaries, and safety.
Why Focusing on Your Internal Pelvic Floor?
Your pelvic floor is a complex, multi-layered system of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that forms the base of your pelvis. If you are a woman, this structure supports essential organs including your bladder, uterus, and rectum. These tissues are deeply interconnected with your hips, abdomen, diaphragm, and lower back. Tension in one area can easily influence the others. Over time, stress, trauma, childbirth, surgery, chronic bracing, or habitual postural patterns can create restrictions within this system that are difficult to access externally.
Firmly grounded in medically validated myofascial release techniques, Internal Pelvic Health (IPH) offers safe, comfortable, and very effective treatments of your deeper pelvic floor structures and the powerful fascial layers that surround them. IPH can be helpful because your vaginal canal provides direct access to the deeper layers of your pelvic floor’s musculature and fascia – structures that cannot always be reached externally.
What is Internal Pelvic Floor Therapy?
Internal Pelvic Health therapies work by addressing the root contributors to pelvic tension. Treatments include work along your diaphragm, abdomen, hips, sacrum, and upper legs, all to reduce incorrect tension your posture may have placed on your pelvic floor.
Internally, which will always be performed optionally, we can feel the tone, responsiveness, and mobility of the pelvic floor muscles from inside your vagina in ways that external palpation cannot fully capture. Here we can identify trigger points, areas of fascial restriction, or regions where your tissues are holding protective tension. This internal perspective allows us to identify areas of holding, asymmetry, or protective guarding that may be contributing to your discomfort, dysfunction, or a sense of disconnection from your pelvic region.
Gentle, sustained pressure – one hallmark of all our myofascial release techniques – encourages these tissues to soften gradually rather than being forced to relax. This softens the patterns that contribute to vaginal tightness, low abdomen guarding, painful menstrual periods, and even constipation. Every technique aims to relieve often long-held discomfort by working with the interconnected structures that shape the functioning of your entire pelvis.
Internal Pelvic Health therapies are known to support vaginal ease and pelvic comfort. They do not focus on treating your vagina directly but on the fascial, muscular, and nervous‑system networks that surround it. Not only can dysfunction in these networks cause vaginal tension – they can also cause pains and discomfort that manifest far beyond your pelvis.
Internal Pelvic Health treatments support your nervous system in profound ways. Your vagina is surrounded by a complex system of fascia, pelvic floor muscles, ligaments, and deep stabilising tissues that all respond to stress, posture, breathing patterns, and your emotional history. These structures do not operate in isolation. When any part of this system becomes restricted, your pelvic floor often compensates by tightening or bracing. You are likely to experience senses of internal pressure or a feeling that your vaginal tissues cannot “let go.” Over time, this can contribute to sensations of vaginal tension or difficulty relaxing the pelvic tissues. Eventually, this can cause pain with penetration, difficulty inserting tampons or menstrual cups.
By addressing your deep pelvic structures directly, internal myofascial release helps restore healthy coordination, improves mobility, and supports overall pelvic wellbeing. It offers you a compassionate, clinically grounded pathway toward comfort, embodiment, and deeper connection with your pelvic floor.
Previous clients frequently described feeling “more connected to their body”, “more aware of their pelvic landscape”, and “more able to access natural relaxation”.
Pelvic Floor Issues That May Be Challenging You…
Our therapies never replace medical assessment but can be powerful complementary approaches within a holistic care plan. In consultation with your medical specialist, if desired or necessary, we can work with you if you face any of the following gynaecological conditions that influence or limited your comfort, desire, or ease during intimate experiences –
Most of these conditions don’t just affect your physical comfort – they can influence your confidence, emotional connection, and a sense of safety in your body. Many women delay seeking help because these topics feel private or sensitive, but they are extremely common and treatable.
If you are experiencing any of the ‘bodywork treatable’ symptoms mentioned above, feel free and confident to raise this in your conversations with us. As qualified and trained pelvic‑health therapists we can recommend a treatment that’s suitable and appropriate for you, with clear clinical rationales.
Safe, Respectful, and Comfortable Techniques
Ultimately, the goal of any Internal Pelvic Health therapy is to recreate the conditions in which your pelvic floor can naturally release. As you progress through your treatment programme you may notice that as the surrounding fascia softens, the pelvic floor begins to relax without force. This can lead to a sense of spaciousness, reduced discomfort, and improved ease in the vaginal tissues.
We can offer you several therapeutic categories of internal techniques to address pelvic floor tightness, overactivity, and fascial restriction in your posterior vaginal wall –
Re-enabling Your Body’s Natural Healing Abilities
Internal myofascial release supports vaginal ease by working with your entire body, including the fascia that surrounds and traverses your pelvis internally. It includes working with your breath, which influences pelvic tone, as well as your nervous system, which governs muscular holding.
Your Pelvic Floor and Diaphragm
Internal myofascial release helps restore healthy coordination between your pelvic floor and your diaphragm. These two structures move together with every breath. When your pelvic floor is overly tight, it often loses this natural rhythm. By releasing internal restrictions it can begin to respond more fluidly to your breathing patterns, improving both comfort and function.
This is why all our bodywork treatment programmes start with our unique Thoracic Release sessions. When you choose to follow a longer-term Deep Pelvic Health programme with us, your therapist will alternate pelvic and thoracic sessions to ensure both your pelvic floor and diaphragm continue to work together properly.
Calming Your Nervous System
One of the key benefits of internal work is its effect on your nervous system. Your pelvic floor is highly sensitive to emotional and physiological stress. By empowering you to feel safe, supported, and in control during treatment, we invite your body to shift out of its protective mode, which allows your parasympathetic nervous system to activate. This reduces guarding and enables your tissues to release more naturally. Many of the women we work with described a sense of warmth, spaciousness, or relief as the deeper layers of their pelvic floor softened.
You Stay in Control – Always…
Before discussing what you can expect from a typical IPH session there are a few things you should know immediately –
What to Expect from a Deep Pelvic Health Session?
Every Internal Pelvic Health session starts with a free-flowing conversation about its format. We explain how techniques and methods will be sequenced, and how each will be performed. We will answer any question you may have to ensure you stay empowered and in full control over the entire session. The session will only start with your full consent.
After your therapist leaves the room you can undress in privacy and make yourself ready on the prepared treatment table. You will not be required to remove lower underwear for Deep Pelvic Floor therapy.
On your signal, your therapist will re-enter the room to commence the treatment. You’ll be fully draped and covered. Small pillows may be placed around your hips and under your knees to allow your body to fully relax. Then, your bodywork session will follow two phases –
Phase I – Relaxing Your Diaphragm
Releasing the diaphragm before any pelvic or internal vaginal myofascial work is essential because your diaphragm and pelvic floor function as a single, coordinated system. These two structures mirror each other: with every inhale, your diaphragm descends and your pelvic floor responds by lengthening; with every exhale, both structures recoil upward.
When your diaphragm is tight, restricted, or unable to move freely, your pelvic floor may be compensating by becoming overactive or guarded. Beginning treatment at the diaphragm helps restore this natural rhythm so the pelvic tissues are not working against a dysfunctional breathing pattern.
A restricted diaphragm also increases intra‑abdominal pressure. This pressure pushes downward into your pelvic bowl, encouraging your pelvic floor to brace in response. Many women with vaginal tightness unknowingly hold chronic tension in their upper abdomen and ribcage. By softening the diaphragm first, we reduce this downward pressure, giving your pelvic floor permission to relax rather than protect.
There is also a strong fascial connection between your diaphragm, your deep abdominal layers, and your pelvic floor. These structures are linked through your body’s myofascial “front line,” meaning tension in your upper system is transmitted directly to your lower system. Releasing your diaphragm creates a cascade of softening through your abdomen, hips, and inner pelvis, making internal work more effective and more comfortable.
Equally important is the nervous‑system effect. Your diaphragm is a major regulator of the vagus nerve and your body’s stress response. When your diaphragm is released, breathing becomes slower and deeper, signalling safety to your nervous system. This shift into parasympathetic dominance is crucial for pelvic work, because your pelvic floor cannot release when your body is in a protective or high‑alert state.
By preparing the system from above, internal pelvic work becomes gentler, clearer, and far more successful.
Phase II – Relaxing Your Pelvic Region
Releasing your pelvis before internal vaginal myofascial techniques is crucial because your pelvic floor does not function in isolation. It is part of a larger network of muscles, ligaments, and fascial chains that span your hips, sacrum, abdomen, and lower back. When these surrounding structures are tight or misaligned, your pelvic floor often responds by contracting, guarding, or holding tension. Beginning treatment externally allows the deeper tissues to relax more naturally once internal work begins.
Your pelvis acts as the foundation of your pelvic floor. If your hip rotators, gluteal muscles, iliacus, or obturator internus are tight, they can pull your pelvic floor into a shortened or reactive state. Many people with vaginal tightness unknowingly carry chronic tension in these outer muscles. By releasing them first, we reduce the mechanical load placed on your pelvic floor, making internal work gentler and more effective.
Fascial continuity is another key reason. Your pelvic floor is directly connected to the fascia of your hips, sacrum, and lower abdomen. Restrictions in these areas transmit tension inward, limiting the ability of your vaginal tissues to soften. External pelvic release creates a “softening cascade,” allowing your internal layers to respond more readily to therapeutic pressure.
Equally important is your nervous‑system effect. External pelvic work helps your body shift into a calmer, parasympathetic state. When your hips and sacrum relax, your brain receives signals of safety, reducing protective guarding in your pelvic floor. Internal work is far more comfortable and productive when the nervous system is already settled.
In short, releasing your pelvis first prepares your body structurally and neurologically, ensuring that internal myofascial techniques can be performed with greater ease, comfort, and therapeutic success.
Respectful, Safe, and Comfortable Internal Pelvic Health work…
This phase is OPTIONAL and ONLY performed on request, if it aligns with your overall treatment programme.
This additional phase of the treatment involves gentle and precise myofascial release work that’s performed from within your vagina to treat the deepest layers of your pelvic floor and surrounding fascial structures. Your therapist may use two techniques to reach these structures –
Your so-called ‘pleasure regions’ are carefully avoided, including the upper regions of your vaginal canal where your clitoris and G-Spot are located. We avoid the cushion of erectile tissue that surrounds your urethra – which can likely be found close to your pubic bone.
Alternatingly, your therapist will apply gentle and sustained pressure on your vaginal walls to invite tissues to release and relax. By performing these techniques carefully, professionally, and safely, tissues usually relax rapidly, which allows you to rediscover feelings of spaciousness and profound relaxation almost instantly.
As your therapist continues to work in a stepwise fashion around your vaginal canal you may feel that the facial structures located around this region’s progressively ‘melt’ and relax. Clients report that this can even be noticed in hips, low back, across glutes, and as far as upper legs. It is not uncommon to also feel the effects across the diaphragm, which then eases breathing and abdominal pressures almost immediately.
Profoundly Professional – approached Maturely…
At Advaya Healing Bodywork we place your safety, comfort, and autonomy at the very centre of every Internal Pelvic Health session.
While this work is deeply therapeutic it also involves an area of your body that requires exceptional care, clarity, and professionalism. Our approach is built on slow pacing, transparent communication, and unwavering respect for your comfort, safety, and boundaries so that you always feel informed, grounded, and in control.
Before any internal work begins we explain the purpose of the session, what areas may be involved, and how the techniques support your pelvic floor health. You are invited to ask questions, express concerns, and set limits.
Consent is not a one‑time agreement – it is an ongoing dialogue. You can pause, stop, or change direction at any moment, and we will adjust immediately.
During treatment, we work with gentle, sustained, and non‑forceful contact, always guided by your comfort and your nervous system’s responses. The focus is never on “fixing” or pushing through tension, but on creating the conditions in which your body feels safe enough to soften. Regular check‑ins ensure you remain comfortable, emotionally regulated, and fully aware of what is happening. Your privacy is protected through thoughtful draping, and only the areas being treated are ever exposed.
We keep our therapeutic environment intentionally calm, predictable, and grounded. This helps your body shift into a parasympathetic state – the state where healing, release, and regulation become possible. We recognise your pelvic tissues can hold emotional as well as physical tension, so we maintain a steady, compassionate presence throughout the session.
Profoundly Professional – approached Maturely…
As with all our work, we remain continuously committed to professional integrity. Internal pelvic work is performed only when we are convinced that it is clinically beneficial and appropriate, always within a trauma‑informed framework, and always with your wellbeing as the guiding priority. Your trust is something we honour with the highest standard of care.
With our Internal Pelvic Health treatments we aim to normalise internal vaginal myofascial release by offering it as a natural, clinically grounded component of our wider therapeutic portfolio – never as something separate, unusual, or stigmatised. We treat this work with the same professionalism, clarity, and ethical structure that guide all our bodywork therapies, ensuring you can experience it as a legitimate and empowering option for your pelvic health.
By framing it within anatomy, physiology, and evidence‑informed practice, you can learn that this is not an alternative or fringe technique, but a recognised therapeutic modality performed by a properly trained professional.
Internal vaginal myofascial release is always client‑guided, meaning that your comfort, consent, and pacing determine every step. This reinforces that the work is collaborative, respectful, and grounded in your autonomy. We integrate it seamlessly alongside myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, nerve mobilisation, and pelvic somatic therapies so it feels like a coherent part of a holistic treatment plan – not an isolated or exceptional intervention.
Ethics remain central. We maintain strict boundaries, clear communication, and trauma‑informed principles to ensure the work is safe, predictable, and emotionally supportive. By upholding these standards consistently, we help normalise internal pelvic therapy as a professional, therapeutic, and deeply beneficial option for those who need it.
Feel free and confident to discuss treatment option at your next visit. We will be happy to answer any question you may have.
